Hello All. I have a 1980 KZ1300B that was wrecked in 1983 and I am in the process of recreating it as a reverse trike. It still has the original rear tire (and the treads are good and still holds air) but with the added weight of the car-like front end I need a beefier tire for the rear. The load index needs to be a 71 or higher (able to carry 761lbs or more). Will a 150 or 160 width tire fit on this rim? Does anyone have the width dimension for the tire bead on this rim? I don't want to take off the rear tire until I'm ready to replace it. Thanks in advance for your help and have a great day.

Perhaps part of your answer can be found in one of the manuals that you can down load on the right edge of this page, at least you can get the standard size tire.

I've got a couple of spare rear wheels which I will measure tonight after I get off of work, that is unless another member has better information in the mean time.

Thanks Bill. I do own a manual and I know that the original tire is a 130/90-17. The problem is that the heaviest weight rating for this size tire that I can find is 694 lbs (load index 68) and I weighed rearend of my project at aprox 750 lbs so I need a tire twith a Load Index of 71 (761 lbs) or better. In my research I have found tires that meet the load rating I'm looking for but I don't know if they will fit on the stock rim that has the shaft drive hub. They are 160/70B-17 and an MT90B-17. The measurement of the width of the rim inside where the bead on the tire goes is what I need to know to determine if any of these other tires will work. Do you or anyone else have an empty rim that you can measure the bead seat area (see attached image)?

Sorry Groove. Both of my rear mag type wheels have old tires in them. I just tried to break the bead but it wouldn't budge.

I do know that a 150-section tyre will go on, but as it's a trike why not go for a car tyre, just a thought

A 150 section tyre will go on the standard 1300 rear wheel rim..........but has a fat chance of coming off in a corner or when under load just a quick.
The widest SAFE tyre to fit is a 130 section, despite many owners fitting wider ones. Its not just the width you need to consider, its the tyre wall & the angle it meets the rim to make a strong bead. If this is too steep an angle it can pull away with drastic consequences.

The only way to be safe with a wider tyre is on the correct, wider rim.
