Hello all - I picked up a 1980 with 7093 miles last week for what I thought was a very good price. This bike sat for 10 years so I wasn't sure what I was getting into. After a week of going through some minor issues, changing fluids, and cleaning the carbs, I fired her up this past Saturday. The motor ran great and smoothly idled at 1100 with the air box on and the choke off. Other than some surface rust from sitting the only issues I have left are to change one blinker bulb, find the problem with the fuel sending unit and change the fork oil seals and rebuild the front master. The tach works but there is some lag time for it to read the actual RPM's - I'm hoping that oiling the cable will resolve that problem. I have also decided to change the cam chain tensioner from what I have learned from this site.

Cheers

The fuel tank sender is probably just disconnected. It is connected in the upper right frame under the tank and it can be real fiddly to get your hands in to connect it up.

How lucky are you?!! That's a great looking bike, and what a low mileage!
It amazes me that machines such as this keep turning up.

I hope you might give an account of your impressions of the KZ when you have ridden it. It's always interesting to hear what owners like / don't like about their motorcycle.
Best wishes for curing the faults on it.

Welcome to the party! I'm actually just about an hour or two south of you- Adrian (pretty much centered between Jackson, Ann Arbor, and Toledo).

I'm still working on mine to get it 100%, but these are fun bikes. Heavy- but FUN!

I am feeling lucky that I have had to spend so little getting this 34 year old bike, that has been sitting for 10 years, to a point where I will be taking it out for the first time for an inspection ride after work today. Here is the short list of what it needed to this point.
Battery - air filter - fork fluid - oil & filter - front master diaphragm - brake fluid - coolant - carb cleaner - brake cleaner and shop towels.
