New to the site;

Recently purchased a 1982 Kawasaki KZ1300. Bike has been in the family since I was born, recently acquired bike from my Dad, looking to rebuild it. Bike is in running condition however could use a motor rebuild.

Thanks,

Look forward to some brain picking!

Welcome ... Interesting colour combination on the bike -- looks nice.
Many have done the rebuild on this site , so pick away.
What sort of mileage does the bike have ?

If you end up having to do some engine work, at least you've got a bike that's in good shape cosmetically. I'd rather start with a cosmetically-nice bike that doesn't run, than a crappy-looking bike that runs well . . .

Data point: I bought an '80 model last fall that was running, but running poorly. My local shop charged me $500 just to tune it up, but it was worth every cent. There's nothing quite like riding a motorcycle that feels like it has an automobile engine in it!

Hey Guys, thanks for the welcome!

Bike currently has 55K+ Miles on the odometer that's there, not 100% if this is correct or not as the bike has had a few accidents under its belt. (I'll have to ask my Dad; he's currently touring BC)

The Bike has had the MOD for the chain tensor on the Cam; Paint is also not stock as stated shes had a few accidents so my Dad painted it.

Bike was used till the end of last summer; and was used lots.

Mileage doesn't appear to be too high compared to some that I've seen posted here, however I would still like to freshen it up and keep it in good working order, as noted before this bike has been around since I was a kid! I can still recall going down the highway sitting in the Gas tank with my Old Man.

Currently have all the bags and fairing stripped off; starting to clean up a few things. Also I plan on running the bike naked as I'm not too keen on the fairing look for myself.

Looking for any tips on part sourcing for this bike, or possibly any shops that are well known for this area of motor work. I am located in Canada but I am located in a border town so I have access to the States.

Any comments or PM's are greatly appreciated!

So, Touringguy, you like bikes that feel like they have car engines in them. Check out "Wild Bill" Gelbke and his Roadog!
