Hi all. New guy here. I just picked up a new project. She is a 1979 KZ1300A tour. It has the full fairing and luggage. It has been sitting for about 20 years, so I have a lot of work ahead. I am kind of new to this, so I am sure I will have many questions. One thing I am trying to find out is about the value of the bike. It seems to be the first year the bike was in production, and the serial number is #4. Does having such a low number increase it's value? Attached are some pix. Any thoughts.

Thanks.

Hi Charles welcome to the forum. You would need to post the complete frame and engine numbers to be able to tell but AFAIK the 1979 A1 didn't have any fairing and many of the parts look like those from later models, it looks like someone has done an upgrade.
With a number as low as that it would in my opinion make it far more valuable to be absolutely original and it certainly make it a collectors item.
I have a 1979 A1 but the Australian/European version which had a number of differences.

Hi Charles

welcome to the forum. As Rick mentioned it would be interesting to get frame and engine number to verify what you have, and I do agree, the low number can probably make it interesting to collectors. I know that the A1 with the Number "3" used to be imported to Germany 10 yeara ago and has been sold back to Japan last year.

Thanks for an update on the numbers.

regards from switzerland/ Europe

Thanks for your reply. I checked out the numbers on the bike.
On a white sticker under the handle bars, on the frame shows serial number KZT30A 000004
Stamped on the frame just below the handle bars is KZT30A-000004
Engine number reads KZT30AE000004
As far as I know the previous owner had the bike for the past 25 years or so. He wanted to keep it as original as possible. I think the fairing was part of the bike when new, and the keys work for all the locks on the fairing.
I will try to get pix of the engine and frame numbers when I get my camera back.
Any insight you may have would be most welcome.

Thanks,

Charles

Yep that sure makes it collectable. The panniers and top box are OEM but I can't say about the fairing although I don't recall Kawasaki offering it as an option in Australia. I would say that if the keys fit any pockets in the fairing that it is most likely genuine as most manufacturers would not allow that of after market extras.
Kawasaki may have details of what was fitted at the time of sale and probably would have the original owners name but whether they would release it is up to them.

Charles,

any intention to sell it ?

regards,

Holger

PS: No, it's not me, but I know someone who might be looking for it.

PPS: Are you sure about the numbers, I thought the Touring model would be a KZT30B.....4 rather than a KZT30A-range ?
