First, Welcome to the Forum. you're in good company. Most newbies show up here full of tears and anxiety begging for help and a shoulder to cry on. Then they find out it wasn't just them that has a 700lb "Beast of Burden" We all found one of these babies in need of a major undertaking. God bless the internet and the opportunity to find others to cry with. Then all things get rightous and our saviours show up with all kinds of enthusiastic responses, wisdom and encourgment. With that in hand, the "projects" get worked through and voila, the end results are always worth the effort put in. Hang in there, we're here for you.
As for paint- I had a local bodyshop quote me $1500 for a complete paint job. Being retired, i thought what the H..., go buy the paint and squirt it myself. How bad could it turn out? Well, House of Kolor cost me $680 for the material. (I've yet to get painting. Maybe this summer.) Have to grind some camshafts first and get Baby back together. Stay tuned !!

Good timing Kawboy with your message! I am facing the paint job myself at this stage, although I've already mentally settled for riding a rat bike (except for the engine and chrome ), and getting it done beautifully when I can. Be it one little panel at a time. As long as the innards work.

I will have to check the House of Kolor you mentioned. I need to find a good place in and around Vancouver though. I am getting into researching what exactly I need and in what order. Which bondo, do I sand blast the gas tank? Sadly, I can't see anything of substance in our body section.

Just to confirm, I have been one of those crying souls! hahah I still am and dammit, I still will be when I'll get to the electrical sheeite. Just wait! hahaha

Yes, Good bless the internet! ;) (no misspelling here, just don't like the sound of a single 'o' in the mix)

Stan does that mean you'll have a go at the paint yourself?

If 'rat' mode is acceptable for a while you have nothing to loose and can achieve very good results with patience and lots of prep / flatting etc.

Stan, You could talk to House of Kolor (the supplier of the paint) and see who they supply in your area. Maybe that will hook you up with a high quality painter.
The other paint supplier I would look to is BASF. I just had some work done on the F250 and looking at the flake in the BASF paint was really impressive. I asked the bodyshop who the paint supplier was and they told me BASF and it's available at our local Car Quest. The bodyshop also mentioned that BASF is a major supplier for most of the factory paint used in the North American makes.
Hope this helps,to

RChaloner, yes, my intention is to paint it myself with spray cans. I have done that many years ago once with good results, even that was a quick job sanding the original paint to rough it up and then came the new color. That would have to be done when the weather is warm, so I would need to wait. But I will research local paint shops, maybe someone does this privately on the side? Will find out. But at least the preparation would be done by me. I am still at the research and information gathering stage, but the tank will be sand blasted tomorrow and I would want to start filling a small dent with filling compound already, and spray it with a proper primer.

I will follow your lead Kawboy! Thank you! I will later post more on my thread, I don't want to hijack RChaloner's story too far and I will definitely have more to tell and ask!
