Hi my z1300 just arrived from Scotland having no end of troubles with it just road it into town took off from lights had no power and stopped .its like the timing has slipped got fuel and spark it turns over but backfires then wont crank any idears please

I would be pulling the cam cover off and checking the cam timing.

stupid question - do you have enough fuel ? Maybe the hosing towards the carbs prevents the full flow ?

I'd rather check that first.

Or is it a DFI ?

I agree with Rick here. A sudden change of rpm on a loose chain will cause the timing chain to slip. Make sure you have a look at the tensioning gear AND idler wheel on the tensioning arm. the stock tensioning gear is nylon and could have split and shattered.

Hope you haven't bent a valve. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the reply i pulled the pick up cover off and found the rotor spinning freely.pulled the complete unit out and plastic gear ok the rotor has come out of the advance weights looking at the parts picture some one has left the washer off under the cap screw.easy fix but a mate picked the bike up on a trailer handle bars moved and bike fell over big dent in tank bugger.does any one have a site i can go to re time it please .

You seem to be a smart fella so I think everything you need to know will be found on page 56 and 57 of the KZ1300 Shop Manual. If you don't have one, you can find the electronic version on the "Home Page Tab" of the KZ1300.com site once you're logged in as a member. You can't see it if not logged in. ( I say this because some members just pop in to the site as a guest and only log in if they want to post)
