Hey guys I'm new here, I signed up to the kzr site a while back but 1300s seem scarce over there so this place seems more appropriate. I bought a non running 1980 KZ1300 with 39k miles during the summer, the first day I stripped off all the fairings and luggage stuff then a few days later pulled the carbs and thoroughly cleaned them then put them back on. I found the coils were cracked so I bought some good used 3ohm Goldwing Gl1500 coils to replace them with. I pulled the old coils off, pulled the valve cover while I was at it and checked the cam idler gear (It looked pretty good so it may have been replaced by the PO), then I installed the new coils and wired them up without the ballast resistor. I had a few issues with some of the other wiring but once I got that figured out it fired right up!

Ps: if you're on the other site this may look familiar because I copy and pasted some of if.

So as you can see I modified the tail section and moved it 4" forward by altering the rear bracket and pinching in the two rear tubes enough to allow the now narrower tail fin to fit down over them. I also cut down the stock tail light and it will end up with leds in it. The seat is also getting shortened and probably end up flat with a slight sweep up to match up to the tail and be recovered with black vinyl with a pleated top. The bar controls need to be replaced so I'll probably get some more modern ninja controls or something similar. The forks need to be rebuilt so I'll likely need some pointers for that. I plan on building an air box with pod filters on the bottom. For the exhaust I'm thinking of either doing a straight 6 to 1 out to the right side or straight 3 to 1 on either side. For the headlights I have a set of 5" round led lights I'm thinking about using. I think I'm going to do flat drag bars on it then paint the bike light blue with a white stripe down the center and maybe a Kawasaki "K" on either side of the tank. OK now I'm done telling y'all my "plans" so here's where I need some help. Both of the master cylinders were froze up, the front one I'm not even going to bother with and the rear one I managed to get the piston out after soaking heating more soaking then finally I gave up and beat the S#*! out of it and it popped out. So if I could figure out how to read German I could buy a new piston from that German site but even if I get that I'm not sure I could use the master because of how rusty the steel sleeve is. So I'm hoping one of you guys have a good used rear master that you'd let go of, I'll try posting in the parts section also if I can.

By the way would anyone be interested in the fairings and stuff? I'm sure some of the purists out there might want to save them but its just not my thing.

Welcome to KZ1300.COM Tony!

I've been a member over on KZRider for many years. And you're right, except for Pete1958 and myself, I don't know of any other sixers over there. In any case we're trying to make this site everything that a 1300 owner would ever need.

With your participation we're that much closer to our goal.

Welcome

I've got a lot of spares. I'll look for that master cylinder and let you know what I have.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationOK awesome! That was much easier than I expected. Mine was also missing the integrated brake switch so that was another reason I just wanted to find a replacement.

Here's what I was thinking of getting for the front:

Its not as massive as the stock one but I guess as long as the bore is the same it should work fine. What do you think? I really appreciate the help, thank you!

Edit: you'll have to edit it again bill, something broke the link. :/ Hi Tony, It took a few tries. When posting a link to an e-bay item just put the item number between the tags. Bill
