Hello from BC Canada.
Just about to go and pick up my first KZ1300 (not my first Kawa,i have a KZ1000,Z900 and a H2) They are very thin on the ground here, bike is 20hrs round trip LOL.
So the first of many questions, are the frame and engine #s supposed to match on the big Zed? ...................as they don't on my others and there are different acceptable variances on each model.

Welcome to the party! To answer your question, no. Frame and engine numbers are usually close, but usually don't match.

What year are picking up? From what I know, the 79 and 80 are functionally identical, possibly the 81 and 82 as well. I think the ignition changed on the 83, then changed again in 84. There are detail changes apart from that, but a great many parts interchange through all models. Good, for how rare they are.

Must be an exciting prospect for you. I know it was when I first got mine. Even now, two years later, it fills me with awe every time I go into the garage and look at it! And I've not yet had it running! So I hope it has the same effect on you.
Is yours standard, perhaps in need of restoration, or mint condition? i'm sure I speak for all when I say that we would like to hear about it, and see pictures. Also it would be good to see your other Kawasakis.

So there will no doubt be some fun and games during the resurrection. l hope that getting the carbs off is slightly less of a PITA than my CBX1000, that had also been ''running when parked'', and requires the engine to be titled forward to get them off! LOL

A couple of the clan, the tin of a 74 H2 that i am rescuing, it was black and choppered when i got it, i cannot imagine trying to ride a well set up H2 with a 16'' doughnut wheel on the back!........................oh and one off the rocket ship for the inner 12yr old, i use to scare myself on occasion

If you didn't get scared on the H2 at over 110 MPH then you shouldn't get scared on the Yammie. I had a '74 H2 as well and there's nothing like riding out a high speed front end wobble to get your heart going pitter patter. Or you should try a rear end wobble on a CBX when hammering through an on ramp at 80 MPH. Now you know where "Ridem Kawboy" came from.
