So, I have to ask - Why that particular harness? And once you've made the change, what wiring diagram would you use to diagnose issues ? And why would this harness be any better than the original? Did they manufacture it better?

Also have to add there are quite a few things that don't need to be there why would you want so many wire when there could be a lot fewer have full respect for people who want the original to remain but I'm into improvement who would think that after 8 months and the thing aint running would love to make mine real simple and i would use the wiring diagram from whichever bike is used and once you got away from the bull rope wiring i don't think you would have that many probs love this bike but the wiring is a absolute crock

I feel thre pain you're having with getting this machine up and running but as the saying goes " Better the Devil you know than the Devil you don't" Ditching all that wiring and going with something different may be a whole new set of issues to overcome. Not saying it's a bad thing, but it may take longer to get the bike running right. Usually wiring harness issues can be shortened down to 2 major areas. The connectors due to the fact that they're open styled and exposed to the elements and the wiring going to the headlamp area due to the steering moving back and forth. It's really important to maintain the wiring routing in this area because the harness has to accommodate the movement with minimum damage to the wiring. Lots of times people are working in that area and push or pull the harness to make room and then leave it in the "new position" and set themselves up for issues down the road.
Anyway, the short version, if you have harness issues, usually you can see connector problems and repair. If no visual issues are seen, then suspect the wiring at the steering neck. Aftger that, it's a crap shoot.

She is going now on the original so i will finish off with the original but i will be having a look at some other options just to try and combat the age of the loom .
The site wim-pmc.com in the Replacement Z parts has wiring looms for the models i had mentioned before and switches all which are brand new and very reasonable so i will have a play with some help from a friend who is a electrical systems designer who loves his bikes
