Just recently bought a KZ 1300 in Edmonton AB and am looking forward to reading advice on this forum, Its complete and the previous owner rode it last summer but I think I'll check the CCT before I start it

Welcome to the Forum. Great bunch of people here. Since you're new to the KZ1300 I would suggest you have a look at the FAQ tab and get your head wrapped around the issues that have been found and articles on what people have done to rectify. It's a great place to start and don't be afraid to post questions. There's a few diehards on here every day who can point you in the right direction.

longjon: The previous owner should have supplied "the Manual" with the bike. If not-get one immediately, please. While you wait for the hard copy you can peruse the down-loadable version, here. Read the FAQ's with some discretion Stay focused on the obvious simple tips which as closely as possible refer or point back to "stock". The CCT is #1 priority. Tweak, tune and maintain what you have as best you can and ride it for the season without "adding" anything. Get to KNOW her Intimately!
Hopefully you've got an unmolested machine! Too many buy these bikes with virtually no understanding of the quirks and idiosyncrasies, let alone their own abilities. RESIST urges to immediately start changing-out needles, jets, coils, air-pods and other such stuff which will ultimately do nothing more then frustrate you to death when the performance starts going for a .... and the problems start to manifest in weird and inexplicable ways. A small and otherwise benign issue which could normally be easily rectified is often lost in layers of "mistakes". It can be extremely difficult to peel away the layers of "modifications" to isolate the real problem. Depending on your background and skill-set; delve into her and keep an open mind, take lots pictures of your dis-assemblies, make notes, pray for patience and don't be afraid to ASK when you get stumped.

Do keep in mind that if we have to endure 12 pages of threads of your asking "How do I set the wet-level" there will be those of us who will hunt you down and beat you with your own manual

Consider the manual and this forum as the OLD and NEW Testament. When you're riding the highway on a well tuned 1300, it's a religious experience !

Pictures are always welcome here so we can be jealous of others efforts and often get some good ideas to implement ourselves. Scale the photo's small so they'll load. 900 X 600 works well.
