Absolutely understand. Here, each of the 50 states do their own thing. And what they do differs widely. When I recently bought a KZ from another state, the clerk here in Texas pulled out a 3” thick binder. She had copies of what forms to expect and where they needed to be signed from all of the other 49 states.

Some states don’t even have titles after a certain age (15 years I believe). At that point they just toss the state records and anyone that shows up can pay the annual registration fee and get license plates.

The “I lost it” excuse though is bullshit. For any vehicle I own I can walk in, show ID, fill out a lost title form, pay a reasonable fee, and the state will mail me a new title in about 10 days.

Best bet if you found a good deal is to have someone local make the purchase and get the paperwork sorted. Sorry, I’ve not got any buddies in Atlanta!

BTW, I’m in the shop and have had to open the doors to cool it off. It was 80 today and now is 63....

The best part is states don't communicate. I bought my first bike (1978 Goldwing) in Georgia. I knew Georgia didn't issue titles for old motorcycles and made the mistake of ASSuming that NC knew this and the process would be easy.

Narrator: It wasn't.

NC requires a title for every registers vehicle. Period. Full stop. No title? No plates.

In order to get a title, I had to wait about a month for a License and Theft vehicle inspector to show up, snap a few pictures, fill out a few forms, and say good luck.

I then had to purchase an indemnity bond for the bike, and take all that to the DMV. They gave me plates then.

The title didn't show up for about 6 more months.

Collector owned 79. 18,000 miles $5800. Title in hand. Probably the right bike for someone that wants something ready to ride.

There are a pair of KZs on eBay. One is a project, the other is a spares bike.

Currently no bids and the starting bid is $1999.
