I remember you having lots of grief with that Scottish bike, Graham. What happened to it in the end?

I'd like to know in more details about this bike. What sort of trouble you ran into? I hope the one I am restoring (or rather building, haha) will not show some serious mystery problems which would come up after having all put together. The only thing I haven't taken apart on this bike is the crank case, and I have no idea why this bike was let to rot in the first place! Do you have a more in depth write up about your bike on the web somewhere so I could learn?

Hi i sold the bike to another mechanic with all the receipts and some spares . To answer you Stan the problem with my bike was i was lied to buy a bike dealer in Scotland who said he had owned 6 of these and this was the best he had ridden. To keep it short it had been put together with silicon and a grinder he had ground the shims and ends of the valves .There wasn't a gasket that was complete and the oil pick up was blocked with silicon. It was not the bikes fault it had been butchered by someone. NEVER trust someones work unless you know them or can check what they have done it was a $30000 dollar lesson i never want to repeat.

Wow!!! I am speechless.. I feel your pain and frustration imagining the time when you were discovering the hidden 'treasures' in the bike. I want even mention what it cost you monetarily... I was also lied to by the guy who sold me my bike. I knew the obvious - rusted outside, parts missing, but that was fine with the oblivious to the rarity and costs of simple original parts for these bikes. Soon enough after I started working on the bike I discovered my 'treasures'. The head, all cylinders rusty and so so. You probably know what I am talking about if you read my resurrection thread. It's been almost like building the bike from scratch. I spent already at least 5 times what I thought it will cost to have it running, and I still need a couple things. And I hope the electronic components will work. I totally agree with you - I don't trust others with mechanical jobs, unless I know them and seen their work or hear about their reputation. I hope you can find another one eventually to cure your bad after taste. I just can't wait to see mine on the ground.
