the bores and pistons look like new so i dont really want to pull them out if you think its very needed i will what do you all think, one more thing when i sold the bike to the last owner it had a total rebuild then with new pistons and stuff and its only done 8000 miles since then

Looking at the photo of your timing marks...........I would say the crank cases have been apart at sometime in the past, by the looks of the silicon gasket type stuff along the join.

If I were you I would strip the whole thing & work from the crank out over..........as there maybe other issues inside you cannot see from outside.

Obviously work done by a self claimed "Expert" !!

What it means is the person who put the engine back together obviously didnt have a clue what they were doing on a Z1300.........but no doubt claim to be an "Expert"
There are many people like that !!!

Reason I asked where you lived was incase you were close to me in the UK & I could have came & offered help ............but we are about 200 miles apart unfortunately.

cheers for the offer Pete ,just out of the hell of it ive been out in the garage just now loosely put the head back on and the cams did the timing and bingo the marks which i had tipexd on before it came apart and they were no where near where it should of been about 6 teeth out wow wth no wonder it killed the valves,ive got a very good local engineering workshop near by who can do the valves but its going to be a fair bit cheaper to get another head and any help there would be great there's a few on fleabay
