Hello everyone

I'm Simon from South Wales near Abergavenny,  and my love of Japanese bikes from off road stuff XR's through to ST1000's etc i finally have my own Z1300, however this one has a broken crank ! you may have seen it on ebay a few months ago im the lucky new owner . i have a temporary donor engine that will be fitted ( although may have issue with different looking oil filter housings, i will come back to that)  so i guess my question is, who is the person / company that will take on the busted cranked engine, i have crank to fit but not the skill , time or room to have another build on the go. The engine was rebulit 16k miles ago by A&H Performance. see pics attached , engine still turns with no knocks , some pics attached , any advice or recommendations would be very welcome :)
Cheers
Simon

Hello Simon, good to hear you have acquired a 1300.  It took me about 35 years before I finally bought one!
Regarding repairs to your engine, perhaps you could ask zed-parts.com if they can recommend someone to do the job. Oz at zed parts used to do such work, but he has health issues at present.

First, Welcome to the group. lots of great info here and a wealth of knowledge you can tap into.
Snapped crank??? That would be a first I've heard of. The pic shows a break and it looks more like #1 conrod that's broken and even that is a mystery.
Either way the engine needs to come out and be split. Pulling the engine at home can be a bit of a problem if you don't have rigging. You can lighten the load by removing the cylinder head and cylinder block before removing the engine. Just removing the head will give you more room to maneuver the engine out of the frame. I have heard of one individual who got the engine ready to pull, then leaned the bike over on its side and freed the engine from the mounts, then lifted the bike off the engine, leaving the engine on the floor. Creative, and it worked.
The hardest part of the job is removing and replacing the engine. The Service Manual is very detailed on how to split/rebuild the engine and if you follow it to a "T" you can do the work yourself. Paul McBoney did this work after we encouraged him to "Dive in head first" and he got it done. If you get stumped, we are here to help.

Thanks KB , well progress has been made , old
limp is out and donor engine is in , lifted the frame off engine method worked well and fitted over donor engine also without too much hassle !
Just reconnected everything over the weekend and went for a start, had a few coughs but can't get running at the mo , I've left airbox off atm could that be causing any problems ? I have spark , the pickups for the donor engine were out when I got it , any tips for setting them ?

Installation of the timing advancer housing can be found on page 57 of the Factory Service Manual.
If you don't have the Manual, it can be downloaded by members from the "Main Menu" , "Service Manuals" tab at the top left of this page.
