More progress today.
New throttle cables installed. They were almost too short. Note that the cables have slack, but ALL adjustments are at limits.
Even the  threads on the switch assembly are at limit.

With pliers and great care you can shorten the cable sheath by one centimeter, this is how the tensioning screws will act.

Are they the correct cables?  The European market 1300 has narrower handlebars, and presumably, shorter cables.

The problem is in the cable sheath.

There is little distance from the end of the sheath to the head of the cable for the regulating nuts to operate.

The required length of cables with both ends provided with a head is measured with the cable sheath.

Here's the email reply - not sure I agree they will 'bed in' over time. Now I wish I had measured Zed vs OEM cables.
Hi Donald,Thank you very much for your feedback , it is appreciated. We try to find the best quality parts for these beasts when the original is no longer available. There are some very bad inferior parts out there especially on ebay, some of the carb kits are awful. We have compared them to the ones we sell and you can see why carbs do not work when fitted with these. They go for around £12 whereas ours are £58. The cables are meant to be fairly tight to start with, we had this on the originals too, so that as you start putting some miles on the bike and they "bed" in, it allows for a slight amount of give. They will soon be bedded in and not so tight.
