The guy who works on my Guzzi LM3 tells me that viscosity is one thing its the additives and blending that the retailer does that makes the bigger difference. There is a reason why some oils are cheaper than others. On another forum for Suzuki Katana's guys swear by Penrite 15w-50 diesel because of the extra zinc providing more protection. The Guzzi guy reckons Penrite is rubbish and so it goes on and on. But of course opinions on oil are like bums.......

I would have started this topic with a warning. Discussing the "right" oil is like talking about religion or politics, though I believe that the majority agrees on the difference between mineral-oil and fully synthetic oils.

A difficult topic, so thanks for the input.

I tried fully synthetic in my ZG many years ago; oil started weeping from the rubber cam half moons & the clutch started to slip. Been using semi-synthetic since, been fine.

I had a similar issue. I run Rotella T4 15W-40 in all my motorcycles and dirtbikes. Never had an issue. But like the previous poster said, oil talk is like religion and never really accomplishes anything. I've also found that the methods to break in an engine has similar feelings.
