My bike has developed a rattle which seems to coming from the clutch area, it's only noticeable when the bike is on tickover and it quietens down a bit when I pull in the clutch lever.
Otherwise the bike is running nicely. I renewed the clutch plates a couple of years ago so it's only done about 5000 miles since. Am I being paranoid, or should I strip the clutch down and investigate?
The reason I ask is I am really busy at work just now, so I have a problem making time for the bike.

I would think you're hearing the free side play between the fibre plates and the outer clutch basket. Not sure what condition your clutch basket was in when you change the plates. You might try adjusting the idle slightly to quiet the rattle. Sometimes some funny noises will happen at what's called critical RPM's. It happens at certain harmonic RPM's in an engine.

I have zero experience with KZ1300, but my Vmax has it and everyone says it's normal. You put it in neutral and you hear weird noises.

Mine has a slight rattle as well. 80,000K and the original. Disappears quickly as it warms up and smooths out. No concern for me, personally.

I've owned 4 running KZ1300 and they all had that clutch basket rattle. Even my low mileage engine has a slight basket rattle. Nothing to be concerned about.
