2016-09-05 Spark Plug Hole

Noticed spark plug number 6 was weeping around the seal/seat area. Hmm. Looks like some powdercoating got too close. How to remove the powder coating without getting crap into the cylinder?

TaaDaaah!

The end.

so you had the whole engine powder coated? I was wondering if some body on this forum would do that, rather than painting. Are you pleased with the finish? Is it retaining its colour ok?

Powder coating an engine............interesting !

If its lasts, it will look good for quite sometime.

We have a powder coating plant for the products we manufacture in the company and I can tell you the metal surface must be clinically clean to make it stick to it properly, or else it just drop off eventually........even if it does not get hot.

You must have spent a long time masking the parts of the head off which you did not want coating (all internals) ??
What did you use to mask it off, as the baking process for powder coat means it gets REALLY hot, so no form of tape of anything would last when being baked ??

Ah, I see it has attracted your interest too, Pete. I forgot, there is a build blog (at the top of the home page when you have logged in) for this member's bike, and it shows the engine cases after they have been coated. It looks great.
