So, im getting ready to breath life into the big Zed, in a previous thread there was a suggestion under what to check, ''cam chain tensioner''.

What should i check and how? Bike has 26000kms on it. All i have done so far is spin it over briefly without the spark plugs in it, no untoward noises.

Cheers

Thanks Kawboy, that deals with installing a zx11 tensioner.

What should i do to check the serviceability of the existing tensioner?

in a nutshell, if it has an original tensioner, you need to ditch it and get the zx11 tensioner or go to a manual tensioner or modify the original by adding a manual tensioning bolt to the end of it. The stock one WILL crap out and when it does the cam chain jumps a tooth and valves will impact pistons and .................................... poof!!!! You'll be on the side of the road waiting for a Hog rider to pass by with a girlfriend on the back with a sunburn :woohoo:

......................i just had a brain fart, i remembered earlier looking at the motor and thinking that the tensioner looked a little out of place, being black when the rest of the bike motor is not. l took a couple of pictures, it looks suspiciously like the one on my old zx, but then again i have no idea what the original looked like................? Can you tell if this is original or ZX?
