So my stock coils were 2.1 ohms and cracked with a stock ballast resistor of 1.8 ohms at each lead. 3.9 ohms total resistance. My new coils are 2.2 ohms with new ballast resistors of .8 ohms each. 3 ohms total now.

Nice. Where did you source the resistors from??

I'm sure we'd all like to see the final installation with your design of metal (non-combustable) resistor holder. Nice find on the resistors !

This whole topic has peaked my interest again. The AW82 coils I picked up from Z1 Enterprises test out at 2.2 ohms and this is a little low and would push the limits of the ignitor. Knowing that the target is 2.6-3 ohms in my case would have me source out a .4 - .8 ohm resistor and after a little bit of research I've found that Mercedes used a .4 ohm resistor on a few of their models back in the late 70's to early 80's. Going to go to my local auto source store for some more investigating.

I like the design and fit of the AW82's but I want to get it right before pushing the limits of the rest of the ignition system.

Sounds like a great idea. I was tempted to run my coils without resisters and just buy a cheap igniter to sacrifice if I had to. I use run /turn lights on the rear and replaced all bulbs to led and went from 12.7 charging to 13.6.charging. Hopefully when I put the heavy duty stator on that will bump up a little.
