I have two 1979 Kz1300's. Both are charging battery fine.  I would like a simple option to switch off the headlight when working on the bike and when starting. I bought a push button switch with an indicator light integratated. When on it glows blue.Where would this three wire switch go to interrupt the ignition switch on position and prevent the headlight from burning.I would want it blue light on with the key on and also with the bike running. It should be dark when the head light is not burning. But switching it to dark should not cause the ignition to switch off.Help is greatly appreciated.

At this time I have wired the switch on one side of the headlamp fuse wires at the fuse block.
just need a hot wire when the key is on for the light. I’m think of the other side of the headlamp fuse.
Tge lamp should therefore be lit as long as the fuse is powered.

Your "Reserve Lighting Unit"  is likely going to make your switch idea difficult to acheive

Hi guys
The European version has a switch for the main-light to turn it on (and off). When I start the ignition the main-light follows the position of the switch,

I understand in the US the light comes on automatically when the ignition is turned on ?

Success !yes I can verify having the headlight on and cranking has been an issue on one of my 1300’s when I haven’t ridden it for a while. When the switch is on so is the head light. I have run the battery low and had to recharge it. Sometimes using the MC charger, sometimes a car charger set to 10amps.I bought a three wire switch that also has an actuator LED that when wired properly follows the headlight function.I used an ohmmeter and located the two wires that open and close the voltage. I simply took out the fuse block through the right side of the bike by lowering the voltage regulator and rectifier, two bolts on each component.I wired the switch in series with the fuse marked Head Light 10amp.The third wire is connected to the frame some where convenient. I used one of the fuse block bolts by attaching an eyelet to the wire. It’s a Beautiful thing. I have an LED battery monitor that assures me that at speed the alternator is putting out. There is on more LED on when I turn off the head light while starting the bike.
