Had a mishap in the garage and cracked the glass on the instrument cluster. I need to separate the glass backing plate from the rest of the housing. I read on another thread it was super glued from the factory? Sooo I tried soaking it in purple power for a couple of days but to no avail. So whats the technique to separate them without damaging the rest of the plastic housing ? thanks

I had the same problem quitter a few years ago. If I remember correctly I broke the glass out of the frame and then just worked at the "retainer" little by little going 'round and 'round until it came free. The trick was trying to keep the pieces of glass as large as possible so I could tape them together and use it for a template to cut another. And that's an entirely different story!

maybe Lare can shed some light. I have it in the back of my head that he supplies new needles for tachs and speedos. I'm surprised that you have to cut it apart to service the clocks.

Actually KB the glass and retainer normally stay affixed to the inside of the housing. But if the glass breaks - then it's the retainer that must be freed to remove the glass (pieces) and the very thin glass gasket. Cutting a replacement piece of glass isn't that difficult. It's getting the length and width exactly correct including the rounded corners The is a tolerance of +/- .5 mm or it's too tight and wont fit into the housing recess and too small and it will want to fall out.

Good reason for me to hang on to my stained glass diamond edge grinder.
