Hi Ive also got a KnN filter and had to file away at the air filter box to make it fit. Not good, would expect better from KnN.
Cheers Pete.

I wonder if these filters are still in production with K&N? If they are, K&N may want to hear about this and correct the fitment issue?

Were fortunate they make this filter in such a small number.

To help they may want a spare airbox to check their measurements.

In the long run, it could help us all out.

I'll do the calling to K&N if someone has a spare airbox to send them?

I just purchased the last factory air filter (NOS Stock) from my dealership last week, so I know these OEM paper elements are getting hard to find.

Is it just the filter height that is the issue? what about the outer circumference?

It's not the height, that's ok, it's the lip that sticks out past the filter element itself at the top and bottom, they have made it too big, it's only plastic so easy to grind away, I have left feedback on their website and tried to explain the problem, I didn't even swear :-), just wondering if they ever check any feedback ??, I would never file or grind away at the airbox itself incase I want to put a paper element back in for some reason, it'd be too loose, and I don't want to damage a hard to get part for the sake of some filter that was made wrong. Also another weird thing, they have glued a seal strip around the top of the K&N filter but there is no open top in the filter itself, maybe they should make it open for easy removal and replacement ???? or at least a few holes big enough to get a few fingers in. Cheers Pete.

Got a reply from K&N, here are the messages:-

Dear Peter,

Thank you for your e-mail and I am sorry to hear of the problem you are having with the fitment of this filter in your motorcycle. What year is your bike? Is it equipped with a standard airbox or is it modified in some way?

Let me know because it should have fit without any modification.

Best Regards,

Kevin

Dear Peter,

Our product manager is asking if you can send us pictures of the filter in the air box. Also, would it be possible to get an image of the label on the top of the box?

Best Regards,

Kevin

I have sent photos of the edges that I ground down on the filter, photos of the top of the airbox, also photos of the hole with a tape measure beside it showing the width and the breadth, maybe they might get it right soon, or someone here could give hime better info as to the right sizes, cheers Pete.

Latest reply :-

Dear Peter,

Thanks for the photos and the additional information. This is good to start with and I will forward them onto our product manager.

When a customer of K&N claims they are having a problem with one of our products then we take it seriously. It’s one thing when a customer tries to use one of our products on an application we don’t recommend but, it’s another issue when it is the right product and application. Most likely we are going to retrieve the original air box we used to design the filter and verify the fitment of current stock we have of the filter. In other words a fit check.

Since our product manager is more familiar with the filter and air box he will be able to do some comparisons with the pictures you sent. Once I have more information I will let you know.

Meanwhile, if you can also provide me with any numbers you can see on the air box itself, that will help as well. We need to make sure that the air box you have isn’t different than the one we used for the design.

Best Regards,

Kevin

I can't find any numbers on the airbox, and I ain't taking it out to look !!!, sent some more photos including a shot of the old paper filter I took out that fit well, so if anyone in the states would like to call this guy and have a word with him, go for it, also mentioned about the BMW filter, cheers Pete.

My airbox is currently loose in my garage. It appears unmodfied and had the regular air filter in it before I took it out. I can take some pictures and measurements with my digital caliper tonight if it helps.
