I am starting to make some replica z1300 silencers / mufflers in stainless Steel. Does anyone have an image or good memory of what the internals are like??
Mine are far too good to cut open. I can see that perforated tube runs up the centre, but are there any ' baffles' or wadding retaining arrangements?

The perforated tubes pass through chambers in the mufflers that allow certain frequencies to be cancelled out, what the dimensions of those chambers are I don't know, sorry.

That image is useful Phil. It's sad that we have to rely on a model box for info!! Assuming it is a model box of course...looks Tamiya ish to me...... speaking of which have you seen the price of those tamiya z1300 models lately??

If you have a decent muffler to look at, you should be able to see the spot welds on the outer side where the baffles were placed. the baffles will be solid with a center bore to support the removable baffle tube . The removable baffle should also give you some indications of how many and where the baffle plates are located.

Stiggy, that image is one that I found online, it's not the best quality unfortunately. I had the same laminated in A3 size but lost it unfortunately. And yes I've seen the price of Tamiya model kits of our bikes, it's mental isn't it mate :P I did buy a model kit from a 'lesser' model manufacturer but gave up building it because I got so dis-heartened with it's poor quality. Probably why Tamiya are held in such high regard, hence the prices they command.
KB, the baffle tubes are fixed on the original mufflers, I seem to remember they were removable on 2-strokes of the era & even the last 6 inch portion on some 4-stroke models like the CB750 & KZ900 4 into 4 exhausts though?

My bad. Honestly, I would prefer a removable baffle that could be wrapped in glass wool.
