Out on a run today, my speedometer suddenly dropped to zero.

Got home expecting to find the inner cable snapped but when disconnecting the cable from the speedo head, the cable was undamaged and still turning from the drive down at the wheel, so not a cable or drive issue at all.

Ive had speedo heads fail in the past on other bikes but never a Z1300.

Before I remove the speedo head for inspection, I ask experience from anyone who has had the same problem with a Z/KZ1300 and found a definitive fix or solution.

I can come up with many of my own opinions, suggestions and maybe's so I politely ask for experience only from anyone who has had this very issue with a Z/KZ1300 and found a solution.

Hard to say. Causes can range from "dirty" to "completely worn out".

Thankfully, pulling the gauges on these bikes is not too hard to do. Bets you can do is pull it, clean it, and maybe lube it with a drop of sewing machine oil. A visual inspection might show what's going on, too (discoloration from overheating, etc.).
