Hi guys

I read one article on the web that stated that the record for a race around Australia with a motorbike is currently still held by a police-office that used to set it up.
Probably in the 1980's, however there is NO information on thw web about is. I'd like to get more info on this, does anyone have anything to share on this. Some pics would be good, of course, and some information on the total miles and the time he took.

(No, I do not want to try this myself)

There a re also rumours about a loney Z1300-driver beeing on the road for a lot of hourse hallicination to follow a bus with 160km/h for six hours ... but I guess that leads more into the direction of a fairy-tale.

Nevertheless $I consider this mystic, so please share your knowledge, this is the right place for it.

The motorcycle record is 6 days 22 hours and 51 minutes set by Ross Atkin on a Kawasaki Z1300 in 1982

Makes you wonder where he carried all the engine oil he used............or if he just bought it at each filling station !

This is all I have found so far. Australia is almost as large as all of Europe put together. It's even bigger than Texas! Motorcyclists on an extended trip around the continent with a diversion into the centre of Australia generally ride over 20,000 kms. Years ago motorcyclists used to race around the country, and every couple of years someone would break the record for the 10,000 km round trip over some of the worst roads and through the harshest country imaginable. Two policemen finally beat the 10 day mark (well one did - the other had an altercation with a 'roo) on Z1300's back in the early 80's. That record stands, and probably will forever. Speeding is rather frowned upon these days - go fast enough, and they'll lock you up!

Poor bugger..............I bet that roo wished it had not been in that place on that day & didnt live to tell the tale, or now "hops" with a sever limp !!
Just imagine being hit by 1/3 of a ton of Kawasaki 1300.............ohhhhhhh !
