Thank you guys for the best wishes. What happened - there was an ambulance approaching intersection at night and it was hard to know which way it's coming. There was a car in front of me and we slowly slowed down to the right to almost a stop. Naturally distance between vehicles became smaller. We were almost stopped when the car just slammed the brakes. I had to emergency brake and the bike tipped to the side. With a passenger, and the wet road, as we both slid a bit forward on the bike with the super high seat of the KZ1300 I just couldn't hold it as it started tipping. I did the best to protect Tina and the bike, but my leg got pinned between the exhaust pipe and the asphalt. Good thing the pipes are stock and double walled! But that didn't save me from getting 3rd degree burn. It got infected and they said they cut off the whole area out making it into what looked like a large crater. Then the second surgery using a graft from my thigh. To add to the story, I must say that the nurses were another disaster, except one. Without prejudice, the Chinese nurses, especially the last one, couldn't even apply dressing properly and her wrapping the leg would be better done by an elementary school kid with a bit of imagination. It's the first time with something serious for me in a long time, and I am truly shocked. How these people get licences?? What happened here? The obvious observation is to see that they immigrate to Canada, pass some tests to get a license, but keep the mentality and habits from wherever they came from. This is best seen observing people drive here. I am an immigrant myself, but where I came from I was used to consistency of service, knew what to expect. It wasn't all always great, but never like this.
Well, the car that caused my fall just took off, and I was helped by police who happened to drive in the same direction. But I spent a good 2-3 minutes frying my leg. And the bike - I did a good job saving it. Some light damage to the turn signals, already fixed, but unfortunately the lens cracked. I was very surprised how much oil came out with the bike lying on its side! It just poured through the air box. I just cleaned it up and there was still a lot of oil there. I have no idea why the one turn signal isn't working suddenly, as the bulb is fine and all the connections are fine. And two cylinders became dead - I think the spark plugs are so sensitive they just broke. I already changed all to iridium this time, but will crank the engine after I take a look at the reed valves and any possible leaks in the exhaust and the vacuum afterburn valve (I had some backfire before that). So, the fuel tank will come off and I will get back to doing a tune up.
Yesterday I went for a ride first time in a month. What a feeling!
The Goldwing is sitting low so it was a good start. Took the cylinder block of the spare engine I'm building for deglazing. The crankcase is already closed, so with the cylinder head already sitting with all seats machined and valves done, it's time to finally have this one done. It will be great having a stationary KZ1300 engine for testing the carbs and electrical components. I have many photos, but a bit lazy to edit them. I'll do my best.
I'd post photos of the burn, but I won't do it unless asked. It nasty and definitely not good to see when eating breakfast
0n the other hand, all of us riding bikes face that possibility of having it one day. It would be good to see what you can expect.
Cheers,
Stan
