Hi all, silly question, but as I have the sidecar on, I need wider bars, now the bars I have on now I think are stock standard and cause a bit of a pain in the wrist on long rides (you just have to keep a bit of pressure on them to keep the bike straight), so a longer bar would be good, bit of extra leverage and maybe not so much of a sweep back, any suggestions ?, I've been to a few bike shops around here and all they can show me are pictures in catalogues or trail bike bars. Just wondering what is the measurements of a set of stock bars ?, maybe the ones I have aren't right ?, ok i'll go check e-bay and a few web sites, seems most places don't have measurements, makes it hard to pick one up, cheers Pete.

P.S. if I do buy bars, I guess i'll have to drill the holes for the left and right hand control box locators ??

Hey Pete,

The bars on my 81 KZ are 32" across and have about a 10" sweep back from the triple clamp. They are stock.

You only have to drill a hole on the right for the throttle control - there is no hole on the left side.

cheers

Dang, had to find a tape with inches on it to measure mine, we're metric down under :-), ok the "original" ones I have off the bike at present are 28 inches across from tip to tip, and holding them against a flat surface they have a 5 inch sweep back, so these are a tad different to yours, wonder why ?, they look right for the bike, will have to check into this a bit more. Do you have to have a longer clutch cable and front brake line to make the distance, or are the standard ones ok ??

the left hand side has a small hole underneath, for the lock screw of the left box, don't know if this was done originally or was done by someone else, this is getting interesting, so many differences, I guess the Voyager type bars might be different again ??, wonder if there is just a "standard" type ?

Left hand hole under bars

Right hand hole on top of bars

Locator screw on left hand box
