So i got the monster running, no leaks anywhere, revs freely and sounds great (except at idle, popping a bit, hopefully that will disappear when carbs synced properly).

Just as i got it running about right the throttle return cable snapped, but i synced them anyway. Still have some work to do, but very happy with the progress

that sounds good,do the older engines make more noise than the injected ones? mine is an 86 and it seems quieter. just curious. pat

No idea, but its inside a 16'x16' room 9with the door open0, so theres probably a lot of amplification.

Just a thought for those who have made up your own gauge sets. I've seen a few videos showing the bike running and the video is looking at the gauges. You can see a lot of needle flutter on the gauges and of course you're synchronizing the carbs so the flutter is at equal points on your gauges. If you take your set up and add 1/8" needle valves in the vacuum lines before the gauges , you can throttle the vacuum to each gauge and get the flutter down to near nothing. It's better for the gauges and simplifies determining what you see and helps you dial in your adjustments. The old gauge set that used to be available for the CBX (6 gauges) had these valves. Just food for thought.
