I never knew holding the clutch in with the ignition on opened it up.
I was having some issues with the new needle and seats leaking slowly in the carbs so i pulled them off and lapped them in with some paste and refitted them .And it made me decide to refit the cut off solenoid as a precaution when checking to see if it worked i noticed it.

I guess it would have to work that way. The clutch is wired in with the starter circuit, makes sense.
I've got to ask:
Does your fuel in Australia have alcohol in it?
How good is your petcock?
Have you checked your fuel level by the wet method?

I had the carbs on the bench the other day wet checked float levels etc and had them sit for a few hours to make sure the needles were seating.
The petcock was a bit stiff i pulled it apart cleaned and checked everything and greased it up it is now free and working.
I eventually want to fit a pingel petcock and some of scotch's brass floats.
But for now it is doing the job.
We do have fuels here with ethanol added i stick with a bp ultimate fuel not sure about the alcohol.
