I put out a post a couple of days back with no response. Probably because it sounded like a statement more than a question. Here is my question I have been trying very hard to get my floats to the Kawasaki spec of 6.5 - 8.5 mm from the bottom edge of the carb. I have been using my the clear tube method. It seems once I feel I have it and then I don't. The level on the tube seems to start to creep up and then I'm back to square one etc. I tried to bench calibrate them using the recommended height of 27mm and I still got a lot of weeping and a small fire when the carbs backfired. So is getting the float height this much of pain? Can one of you gurus point me in the right direction on how to get this right ?and is carb weeping normal to this bike?

Hi Kenny, you mentioned in your earlier post that you had purchased a FZR1000 fuel pump! Is this pump connected to the carbs when you are trying to set the fuel levels? That pump will deliver too much pressure for your needle and seats to seal effectively and will weep and cause endless problems and floading! Lose that idea of the pump and get a high flow petckock, Pingle or similar and remove your solenoid valve if it's still connected. I have replaced the petcock on my bike, removed the solenoid valve and have absolutely no problem since, hot weather, high speed - no problem with fuel flow! Alternatively, have you replaced your needle and seats in the carbs? These may need replacing, also check the 'O' ring on the seat part of the needle and seat. This 'O' ring sits around the seat and is pressed into the carb body. They can be problematic - check them as fuel may be bypassing the needle and seat completely causing your problem!

Totally Agree with Craig about not using the FZR fuel pump. Our older style float valves are not meant to be pressurized.

Pressurized float valves are a different design.

The fuel level in your sight tube is either creeping up by the pump (If the pump is installed) or you may have a sinking/ leaking float????

Like others have encountered over the years, our Floats can leak due to their age.

Is it just one carb bowl that has the creeping fuel level? If so, switch that float to another bowl and see if it changes. The most common method to check a float is to remove it and place it in a tank to see if it sinks too much.

Regards.

Thank you for getting back to me guys! :cheer: I came to the same conclusion with the fuel pump and relegated it to my parts pile(50 bucks in the pisser).I took two readings one with the pump and without. and as stated it's never going to work. But still having PROBLEMS with the level and weeping even without the fuel pump in the equation. I will check the floats for leaks for sure and change the needles etc. I will give it another go later today.BTW I did purchase a Pingle petcock as well.
