im sure someone can explain .

why are there 6 vacuum take off plugs and only 3 adjusters, 1 for each pair of carbs
the book even shows 6 gauges being used.
how do you adjust an imbalance between 1-2 3-4 5-6

just asking like, ya know,...

Hi Ian,

I'm thinking that the reason why the carbs are synched last is to give you the opportunity to get the valves right so that each twin carb is presented with two cylinders that are equally hungry.

The Vacuum ports are for more that just synchronization.

**Serve as Taps to run the Clean Air Injection System.
**Ability (Through Vacuum) to monitor each cylinder individually.
**An opportunity to see if one port is grossly off from one side to another. A good bench sync during carburetor assembly will generally prevent one bore from being too far off.
**An opportunity to monitor air leaks with your gauges.

It is a bummer that Mikuni did not offer a balance adjuster that would adjust each cylinder individually. Like most things under the BIG 4 Japanese manufacturers, it comes down to cost.

With cost being one of the most core elements of their design philosophies, we sometimes get shorted on the design end of the manufacturing process.

Todd,

Agree 100%............& will add the fact that the carbs on a 1300 are terrible & Mr Mikuni should be embarrassed he ever designed them. A complete after thought !
Who the hell thought up 3 x twin choke carbs for a bike !!!!!!

Only consolation is it does not have 6 carbs like the CBX1000..........now there is a complete carry on & an absolute sod to work on & fit (from experience).
