Hello all, just aquick question. Can anyone tell me if the throttle cables on the z1300 are the same cable. I seem to remember reading that they were some where. Any ideas?

Do you mean the TWO cable are the same or do you mean the Z are the same as the KZ ?

I have two cables, old ones I took off my A1 and put new ones on, one is longer than the other, which they would be, one to go to the front and the longer to go to the back of the carby connections, photos below, suppose you could use two the same length, so long as they are not too short and allow free movement when turning the bars, short one is about 40 inches and long one about 42 1/2 inches, that's measured straight up from the bend to the end of the thread the other end, cheers.

Just to add to that.... they are different part numbers so they are not the same.

If you asking between the KZ and Z1300:


They are definitely different. Just converted my KZ's RH handlebar cluster to the ZN type, which has the throttle cables on top, like the Z model. This was the only way to get the factory kill switch back on the bike, by buying a decent cluster off of Ebay.

Z1300 metal cable leads bent at 90degrees, the KZ's are bent approx. 80degrees.

Z1300 (carbureted) throttle cables an inch or two longer to reach the top of the cluster.

ZN 1300 throttle cables about 4" longer than the KZ model.

ZN1300 and possibly the Z fuel injected models do not have the threaded turn-buckle at the throttle body on the return cable.

As a stop gap measure, I was able to use my stock KZ throttle cables and route them over the top of the handlebar cluster. The one discrepancy is when I turn the handlebars to the left, they run out of slack and cause the throttle to bind. I'll have to have some custom cables made. So using the KZ cables as a guide/ (Plus 2") on each cable.
