They obviously need to be equally spaced.............but honestly, go for 6 if you can.
Magnets are very readily available on Ebay and cheap.
I used either the allen head slots in the disc mounting bolts (using silicon to hold the magnets inside) or good old JB Weld Kwik on the spokes of the disc.

Just read the instructions and I can fit more magnets. I have nice mounting holes in the front brake disc so thats where I plan to put them.

But can I use any magnet or are there different magnet 'qualities' that I need to look out for?

And btw, it looks like for setting the speedo up properly I need a masters degree!

I have used magnets of all different shapes and sizes with different strengths with many different makes of digital speedo's and never had any issues at all.
Its only making a circuit via the magnetic pick up (Hall Sensor) so no problem.
Just keep the tolerance between the magnets and the pick up nomore than 5mm and you should be ok, but make your pick up mount with a "Slot" rather than just a hole so you have a level of adjustment.

Ok, found a good place for the sensor, right in front of the holes in the front disc where the magnets can go, attached with some Sugru. There are nine holes, so I can either get three or nine magnets if they need to be at consistent intervals. So nine it is ... (I have not seen a restriction of number of magnets in the speedo manual, but I guess I will find out if it works when fitting them)!

Another issue... the sensor wire. I have for now wrapped it around the brake cable, but that looks awful. Not sure what to do with it, but I'm sure I'll come up with something.

I have still not found anyone to do me a bespoke exhaust, but I have found the one exhaust pipe I was missing from my old system, so I will weld that up and hang it under the bike, so at least I can start her up - albeit a little noisy!

Oh, I painted the front spat black - much better!

Although a longer cable run, you could explore fitting the pick up and magnets to the rear wheel and it maybe easier to hide ?
I did this on a Vmax I built.
