Thermostat modification from FAQ

Quote from FAQ: "I put the little "rafter" in the vise gently (not the whole thermostat) and with a small, flat drift pin, lightly and repeatedly tapped the peak down toward the end of the shaft. Big hard taps won't get it because you need a lot of little, light ones to compress the brass. I kept at it until the brass began to touch the end of the shaft. I checked it and now it begins to open at around 170 degrees, is around halfway open at 180 and fully open at 195 degrees."

Has anyone else done this modification before? I've searched all over the net and couldn't find a trace of anyone modifying their thermostat like this (for a motorcycle or otherwise). It sounds genius but I'd like more of a consensus :).

I've tried the modification myself along with putting in a muzzy fan but I don't have my bike running well enough yet to be able to thoroughly test it. Thanks!

Mike,
Interesting.
Never came across that mod before but sounds good & thanks for sharing.
Its not so much of a problem over here in the Rubbish Tip of Europe (UK) as it never really gets warm enough to worry about a thermostat, even in the height of summer LOL !
