Kz 1300 identification.

#34283
Hi,
im new to this site.
My bike’s frame number is KZT 30A-000329
the engine number is 30AE 000364.
I believe it is a 1979 and I’d like to verify that. Given the difference in the numbers, would this be considered a numbers matching bike?
It starts great from cold but does not restart hot unless I spray starter fluid into the carbs. Is this likely a coil problem? (When it cools down it again starts and revs as it should) If so, what are the best coil replacement and possibly relocation options?
thank you.
sean.

Hi Sean,
Welcome to KZ1300.com !
There's a brief discussion of alternate coils for 13s here:  www.kz1300.com/forum/electrical-ignition...2-coil-fitment#34217
The stock coils have been known to break down with age and heat. I've replaced mine with three ohm Dyna coils even though they're too big to fit in the stock location.

From Gemini3

"Based on the engine number prefix and serial sequence you provided (30AE 000364), your motorcycle is a 1979 Kawasaki KZ1300-A1.Here are the specific details for your model:
  • Model: KZ1300-A1 (Standard/Naked)
  • Year: 1979 (First year of production)
  • Engine Number: Your engine number KZT30AE-000364 falls within the original A1 range (which started at 000101 and went up to approximately 005309).
  • Original Color: This model was originally offered only in Starlight Luminous Blue with gold decorative stripes.
Key Identification Markers:
  • 30AE Prefix: This is the standard engine prefix for the 1286cc liquid-cooled straight-six engine used in the KZ/Z1300 series.
  • Low Serial Number: Being number 364, yours is a very early production unit from the first batch of the "Monster Legend" series.
  • Frame Match: The corresponding frame for an A1 model should have a prefix of KZT30A-000xxx. Note that Kawasaki frame and engine numbers rarely matched exactly from the factory, but they should generally fall within the same A1 production range."

Again...Based on the number KZT30A-000329, you have a 1979 Kawasaki KZ1300-A1.Here is the breakdown of that identification:
  • Model: KZ1300-A1 (the first-generation "A" model).
  • Year: 1979 (the debut year of the 1300cc six-cylinder).
  • Sequence: Since the 1979 A1 frame numbers started at KZT30A-000101, your bike is the 229th unit produced.
Key Technical Details for this Model:
  • Engine: 1,286 cc liquid-cooled inline-6.
  • Fueling: Three Mikuni 32mm BSW32SS CV twin-choke carburetors (this was before the switch to Digital Fuel Injection in 1984).
  • Original Color: Typically "Starlight Luminous Blue" with gold pinstriping.
  • Oil Capacity Note: Early A1 models like yours originally came with a 4.5-liter oil pan. Kawasaki later increased this to 6 liters (starting with engine #KZT30A-006201 in 1980) to address oiling issues; many owners of early bikes retrofitted the larger pan for better reliability.
