Speedometer fault
8 years 2 months ago
Hi,
Has anyone got experience with the speedo mechanism? After a long ride at the weekend I noticed a screeching sound coming from the speedo. I've opened it up expecting to see that it might need a drop of oil, everything seems to move freely but noticed that the speedo needle drops without any damping, unlike the Rev counter needle moves back to the zero mark slowly
Any ideas, thanks Pete

I had a similar problem with the screeching on my speedo. Took it to an instrument repair place who refurbished it. They said the problem was the bush inside the speedo was spinning in it's housing causing the screech. They replacwd the bush and serviced everything else. Works perfectly now.

Thanks guys for the info,
Forgot to mention the needle was also flicking or jumping up and down when it was making the screeching sound.
Still not sure what provides the damping that the Rev counter side seems to have.
As Scotch has mentioned the supporting frame isn't designed to be disassembled but I guess a specialist repair shop would be able to prise open where it's been pressed closed.
