Cam Chain Tensioner

I recall reading about the number of 'clicks' it takes to get the tensioner to take up full slack on the chain when installing as good indicator as to the condition of your chain and sprocket. It is on this site somewhere, but maybe another member has those figures off tap and could just chip in quick!

Will have a look for that Craig, will be pulling the motor apart and rebuilding so will get a good visual when doing so. Not expecting to have any issues with the chain but will be checking for stretch, hopefully that won't be an issue. Thanks for your help.

Z1300 chains will last for well past 50,000 miles if cared for and ran in good oil. Owners over the years have claimed close to 100,000 miles.

Dont forget that the tensioner guides wear before the chain itself and can therefore allow more slack and make people think the chain is stretched when it not.

I took the spring from a standard 1300 cam chain tensioner many years ago and measured its spring tension and worked out the amount that needs to be cut off the replacement ZZR type. To be safe its anywhere between 10 and 12mm cut off.
