4 cylinders too few? 1963 BMW R69s Break-In Ride
3 weeks 1 day ago - 3 weeks 6 hours ago
I feel kinda guilty about posting rides and wrenching on bikes other than the Kz...
Then again, some of yah have said Thanks, and Bill hasn't said cease and desist...
This is the story of 'Aunt Ruth'. Back in the day, Uncle Dutch was my hero.
He drank whiskey, he was into guns, archery, airplanes, you get the idea.
He also had BMW motobikes, among others. Like Ducati, DKW, Yamaha.
Aunt Ruth was his beautiful and forgiving wife who pretty much let Uncle do what he wanted to... like riding bikes.
The only off-limit?
No Cheating.
And he did not.
After Uncle Dutch passed, I bought the two BMW's from Aunt Ruth. I had to take a loan from her, and I paid it back, in full, before the loan due date.
The two bikes were a 1969 R60/2 which I did a 'patina resto' on.
The other was a 1963 R69s that was to be the 'show bike'...you know, with the idea of entering it events like Pebble Beach.
Well, that rock n' roll balloon, (refer to Flo n' Eddy) was popped and now I just want to ride the bike.
But...she IS pretty. So I named her after my beautiful Aunt, Aunt Ruth.
A couple of days ago was the first 'break-in' ride. See below.
..and thanks for putting up with me here.

Nice to hear someone's out having some fun. We may have a commonality of KZ13's around here but still all share the love of riding motorbikes. I appreciate any contribution. It keeps me focused on my eventual goal of getting back into my resto and then riding again.

It looks great. I imagine it is quite slow revving, and relaxing to ride.
I was astounded to learn recently, whilst looking at a new BMW R1300, that the current flat twin produces over 140 bhp. Amazing.

6 days 22 hours agoYes, slow revving, what with, by modern standards, is a very heavy flywheel. IIRC, she makes about 42 hp.It looks great. I imagine it is quite slow revving, and relaxing to ride.

What's really interesting though, is the so-called redline value! If shifting gears via speedo shift marks, that little twin is up there in the rpm band.
About 7k!
The real fun part is shifting. You better know how to double-clutch and match rpms on downshift!
