Replacement fuel tap
6 years 11 months ago
Hi all
Just a quick request for advice. The fuel tap on my bike has obviously stuck in the past and some one has tried to force it resulting in the tap being broken and cracked. They then hashed up a plastic twist valve. I can’t seem to source a replacement (the original is beyond repair). Can any other period kawasaki tap be used as a replacement. Any info gratefully received.
Cheers
Howard

My only fear is that when I die my wife sells my bike for what I have told her I spent on it.

I recall this topic was covered a while back, and a member of this forum said he had used:
New Suzuki GS450 GS750 GS1100 GS1150 Petcock DIRECT REPLACEMENT ( full ebay description)
This, also, is a vacuum operated tap.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configuration
There's one for sale on eBay right now but it's a bit rough looking and it's missing the filter screen.
That Suzuki tap looks like a good option if it fits. Some hose rerouting may be required (does the hose come out of the back of the tap or the side on a KZ1300 - can't remember). The vacuum turn-on is a bonus.

Stupid questions from my side: Just hooking ONE vacuum hose to the intake runner won't do it. There needs to be a y-piece so you can hook it onto TWO intake runners. That's what I had learned.
Am I correct ?

Normally One hose would do it Holger unless one of 2 things are happening.
Low intake vacuum from the runner you hooked up the hose to and that could be because of a number of reasons from a tight intake valve or ... first sort out if that runner has low vacuum or not.
Flow from the runner or hose not keeping up to the bleed off of the diaphram chamber in the valve. - So, vacuum opens up the valve and fuel flows. When the engine is turned off, there has to be a bleed off of that vacuum for the valve to close and do its job. That flow is always there and the runner needs to keep up with that flow before vacuum will build up. With that being said. if you had a leak in either the diaphram or low flow in the hose going between the runner and the valve, then there may not be enough vacuum to open and hold open the valve.
Last, there may be just enough binding in the valve which causes a need for high vacuum to open the valve. Disassembly and cleaning and dare I say polishing of the pin on the diaphram and bore the pin fits in may be in order.
