Update Update, Ok compression test, leak down test, all done. Just to let you know all the science worked.
As you could see from my pervious post, number 1 and 4 down a little on compression. So valves taken out and found 1 and 4 slightly bent !!! one by 1mm the other by 0.5 mm Checked them in a lathe with a dial gauge.
But the main reason for the strip down was the plugs badly sootted up and burning oil only after 50 miles.
So thought stem seals would be the problem. found almost every one well worn. When checked against a new seal 1.5 mm oversize. So fingers crossed for the re-build.

about 45.000 miles
Don't think the stem seals have ever been changed in 45 years

OK Guy's, 2 new valves fitted. Original new Kawasaki head gasket fitted. Replaced valve stem seals. Also new cam chain nylon sprocket fitted.
Head now fitted, but the original workshop manual is confusing me with the drawing of the cam timing marks on page 67 drawing E80 and E81 ????
Why two drawings, if anyone can shine a light on this it would be very helpful.
The other matter is, I had to turn the engine a few times ! so the T mark on the rotor will this be ok at any setting as long as this lines up with the crankcase mark ?
Thanks in advance.

"Why two drawings"
The manual explains this quite well, actually. It's all about how the chain sits in the cam sprockets.
Either a full Link over the respective gear-teeth with the timing marks OR "the gap between them". As long as the "count" is correct, it's irrelevant .
