9 months 4 weeks agoMy children have already named the motorcycle seeing how I am abducted by it...Sign me up.I've spent decades buying cars and bikes as well as helping and advising others on doing the same. For some unfathomable reason I broke every single one of my own rules with this bike. I think I had sussed out all the faults and figured I could sort it for a reasonable cost. I was just blind to the lies told by the PO and darkly hidden secrets buried within.In the end, I'm the buyer who had to be aware but I will make it all work in the end, with patience and good advice ;-)So, sign me up to the "Paid too much for a sow's ear" club"!
I hope I don't end up like the protagonist of the movie.

Christine, hey? Rather appropriate, particularly that Christine was written in 1979 (same year as my A1 was built). It's also one of my favourite books!
What attracted me to the 1300? A good question.......
I headed to the big smoke (Melbourne) in 1980 to study engineering. Released from the shackles of home I finally got to do what I'd wanted to ever since I could remember -- get a motorbike! In my case a 1979 Kawasaki Z250A1. A huge fan of Kwakas, I secretly lusted after a Z1R (rather obvious from the photo of my 250). At the same time I started reading about this incredible machine that was the Z1300. It was as though it was from a different planet! The closest I got to owning one was getting the brochures (which I still have).
As years went by and I travelled from bike rally to bike rally I would get to see Z1300s in action in the gymkhanas -- usually with a sidecar attached. That wonderful sound!!! I knew then that one day I would have to have one. I rode them occasionally but that was even more addictive.
Most of the intervening years have been filled with travelling here there and everywhere on bikes but apart a new Z750GT (a h-u-g-e mistake!) they've all been BMWs.
Now I can finally give into in 44 years of unrequited lust.........
Yes, that 'round Australia record by the Z1300 was big news at the time. Atkin/Atkins?
And yes, my long-suffering girlfriend (now wife) in the photos is still putting up with me but she now generally only pillions if we're travelling overseas as she prefers to ride herself (BMW R1250R).
I hope that acts as a suitable introduction!

It seems that over the years you have been able to solve the oil leaks.
