Waterpump mechanical seal.
1 year 7 months ago
I noticed today some coolant weep along the front bottom middle of the block - I assume it's coming from the mechanical seal. I've never replaced one before in a 1300 and have the following questions:
I did some searching and found folks have been looking for alternatives to the factory seal which is NLA. I'm not clear on if a suitable seal was ever confirmed or not. I found this option by googling: www.zed-parts.com/product-page/49063-1001zp-mechanical-seal . Anyonelse tried that seal?
Are there other bits that need to be replaced while I'm in there?
Does anyone have a link to a comprehensive write-up, hopefully with lots of pictures?
Thanks for any advice.

Found the thread on mechanical seals.
kz1300.com/index.php/engines/3370-mechanical-seal?start=0
Seems the only options are the german and UK sites. Was hoping to find something in North America.

Bucko,
look here
.
FWIW, I ordered the seal from z1300.de. It arrived very well packaged, complete, and installed perfectly. I never did identify a 'spa' seal correctly.

As I’m in the uk I bought mine from Zed parts complete with all the “0” rings and a new circlip. For an idea of how the job is done look here:

1 year 7 months agoThanks. That's probably the route I'll take. I would think the larges market for 1300 power plant bike was North America (maybe that's completely wrong) - seems a little weird to me that the hard to get parts are only available in Europe - bigger fan base there, I guessAs I’m in the uk I bought mine from Zed parts

The new mechanical seal from the UK finally came in and I installed it on Saturday. So far, no issues.
