Automotive Equivalent for Thermostat

What's the automotive equivalent of an '82 KZ1300 thermostat? There's an old topic that says it's a Mitsubishi Eclipse, 2006-2009, but the flange diameter is wrong. I believe it should be 2" diameter, and the Mitsubishi is 2.2".

Not sure if I'm thinking of the 1300 thermostat or not but there was a thread I read where the poster ground down the outer edge of the automotive thermostat to the required dia

Be careful. Remember OEM tstat has two modes... warmup and normal, a 2-stage thermostat. I found a replacement that claimed to be OEM correct but it wasn't.. Single vs. dual stage. So the motor overheated.

Not necessarily. For example the Cadillac 472/500 engines use a thermostat that has an extension on the bottom that moves with the main "valve," so when the engine is stone cold, the extension blocks a port under the thermostat, and 100% of the water goes right back to the engine so it warms up more quickly. I think that's what the "dual mode" thing is about.
