My basket case 1980 small pan missing parts

Do the after market oli filters require the spring and backing washer for the oil filter ? I have emgo filters.

The spring and washer are required (but honestly, not really sure how critical the washer is given the filter typically has a short lifespan). The washer often sticks to the underside of the old filter when removing. The washers are readily available from Kawasaki and it seems to me some brands of filters come with a washer.
