clutch friction plate repalcement.
7 years 1 month ago - 7 years 1 month ago
80,000 kilometres and my original clutch friction plates are an average of + .17mm of minimum spec and need to be replaced. Any suggestions and constructive comments regarding suppliers including those to avoid, would be appreciated. thanks.

I bought EBC - CK4458 - CK Series Clutch Kit KAWASAKI KZ1300 A4 1982. I hope they fit! They seem to be the same. Not sure if they fit your model.

Thanks Stan for replying to Scotch with an answer of what you bought to replace your clutch and I hope the EBC plates work out for you.
I have no experience with clutch replacements otherwise I would have replied. In my younger years I was too busy moving up through the cc's and never had a bike long enough to wear out a clutch and never modified an engine to the point that I needed to fortify the clutch.
But really guys, come on, Nobody has had to replace a clutch and gone out and bought brand X plates and installed? Hard to believe. A thousand plus members and nobody has any thoughts here? None of your buddies replaced clutchs? Sure would be nice to see some posts from the membership on this topic.
Just trying to generate some interest here so "don't shoot the messenger"

For those who have wondered what's behind "the Mirror". Changing out these plates is one of the easiest owner-doable projects there can be on this engine. Even if you're the type who needs three friends to turn the ladder while you hold the bulb ! The wear-faces of the steel-plates were covered in a golden-brown coating that at first glance looked like rust. Did not want to come off - even with Lacquer-thinner. A good cleaning on a wire wheel removed this with no detriment - these plates are hardened. The coating is obviously friction-plate material and I wonder if this is what causes the clutch to stick (not release) when the bike has sat for some time, Although the basket-finger`s had signs of Disc finger contact - there is no discernible wear - either by feel or measureable. When reinstalling the stack it`s important to remember that the first and last is a FRICTION plate.
