Another leaky stator groumet...

I just finished my first service after my rebuild. Checked the torque on the head bolts and the valve clearances. Actually had two open up a few thou and swapped out for bigger shims.

I had noticed an oil spot where its parked, and assumed was the stator cover gasket or the wire grommet. What I didn't expect was that the leak was through the wires themselves. The old wires had gotten hard and brittle where they pass through the rubber. Actually found one was cracked.

I removed the wires from the stator and soldered some new leads on with GXL covering. This is a very flexible wire insulation that is oil resistant and used for higher temperatures. Its also a little bigger than the OEM wire insulation, it was tricky to pull through the grommet, but they should seal it up.

Took her for a ride today and it seems to have worked. Its really a bad design, not sure what they were thinking putting on the bottom????

I clean the daylights out of the grommet, no oils, grease, and coat the grommet with Three-Bond 1194, the gray case sealer I put cases together with. The above fix is great as well.

B) Hey Tyler;
I found the same problem. the wires were all brittle as twigs so I replaced the whole mess. A little 3 bond before pulling my new wires through sealed them up. Love the 3 bond.
