Drive Shaft Rubber Boot
8 years 9 months ago
Hi everyone,
Today I have done some more to the Zed and because of the difficulty in finding a drive shaft boot I had one made ..
The material it was made from is the same material used on semi trailer curtains ..it has been double stitched and is rip stop vinyl material. Made it to leave plenty of travel it is 105mm in diameter and 120mm long. The swing arm and rear of the gearbox is 100mm in diameter and because the material was folded back on itself to get it in the small gap I had it made 5mm larger.
A bit of a mission getting it in but it will outlast a rubber one as it is very tough stuff .. clamps are on and life is good ..
Has anyone else used this tough material?
Cheers

Too bad you didn't find the ones Lare Nurminen remanufactures and sells on EBay. $48 U.S. and shipping from Finland. but necessity is the mother of invention. A picture of your creation would be nice. I know that material and it's tough stuff. My only concern would be water tightness. You really don't want water getting inside the outer tube.

Hi,
You could have bought yourself one made from Nitril Butyl Rubber which resists oils, road salt etc. We have them available at:
www.kawasaki1300parts.com
You will find other goodies there as well, made by Kawasaki 1300 riders and enthusiasts.
Brgs, Lauri

The seam is double stitched and sealed on the inside as well, I will keep an eye on it and see how it goes. I have used this set up on other bikes and it works well ..cheers
