1999 K1200LT - now sold, I like them however was nearly as big as my X5 but no faster.

OK appreciate what you're saying, it makes a lot of sense and I do like the idea of trying to fix the position of the 'main offenders' so they don't wander around each time you're bulb-changing or doing diag's.
I'm in my workshop today and having also taken delivery of a suitable (2nd hand) glass / frame unit, I've now got an even bigger (or smaller?!) problem... the glass unit is nearly 1 1/2 inches wider and taller than the backing bowl I already had!!
Oh hell here goes again... ; )
so now I need to figure out which is valid and which of the two is either over or under size.
The backing bowl does have a few notable differences, in that there's no provision (or tell-tales) for the external adjuster bracket, and on it's inner top edge there's only one section of retaining 'lip' for the glass' frame to hook under.
Maybe this is a duff part?
My headlight brackets (the ears on the fork tubes) do appear to be slightly curved when viewed end-on, which may suggest they've been bent to accomodate the smaller housing.
In comparison, the glass and frame unit has two hook section on it's top edge, has the same single adjuster screw on the side and the two mounting screws on the lower edge at 45 degrees, so that definitely looks like a unit designed to go into a back-housing and not just a car type mount.... I think!
I'll try to upload some pics of what's going on, see what you think.
Stan, my indicators are wired as follows;
Left is solid green and solid blue, Right is solid green and solid grey.
This '79 has day-running lights so the indicators stay on with the ignition (assuming that's not a bodge) so i'm guessing the greens are the day-light feed and the others are the flashing input.
Both have an earth on the bracket which is also commoned together and plugged into a 4 way bullit female in the headlight on a black / yellow stripe.

if it helps compare, my headlight glass / frame pictured above is almost exactly the same width as the instrument binnacle, whereas the back-bowl mounted there is that 1 1/2 inches narrower..

Thanks for the link Kawboy! This confirms that the headlight I got is maybe A1 or 2, because it's identical to those in the photos. I wonder if A4 is the same.
One thing - it came with this pictured below bracket, which was attached to the bucket on top of the conical rear compartment where all the wires go. I am not sure what's this for, but it is in the way so I removed it and will plug those two holes.
