stator replacement

The photo is of the stator I replaced. Looks fried despite having good continuity between the Yellow leads and there was no short/ground to frame. However, One phase was delivering about 30 % less A.C. then the other two phases so decided it prudent to replace the stator while installing the new MOSFET V/R.
Upon inspection of the old stator I discovered a small piece of nylon tie-wrap stuck to the leads! The new Stator came with 3 Ny-Wraps securing the leads to several poles. I removed them and secured the leads with proper winding tie-cord. Why would anyone use Ny-wraps for this? Faster production assembly and cheaper then taking a few extra minutes to secure with traditional electrical winding binding! Can't say one way or another whether having the leads moving and vibrating after the Ny-wraps failed caused the issue, but it's a good likelihood. Cheap bastards, regardless ! Using Ny-Wraps in this environment is just stupid, in my opinion !

New Stator with the original grommet installed. The grommet was pulled off the old leads and installed on the new ones relatively easily.

This write up needs to go in to the KZ1300 FAQ section. The ultimate cure for charging issues. Nicely done Scotch.

Suppose you're going to carry Booster Cables on the bike and offer boosts to folks with dead batteries now that you're riding a stand by generator  :woohoo:

Ah yes, Now riding a SbG 1300. :pinch: Don't believe this bike has ever had this high of a charge rate. Anxious to do a bit of night riding to see how the Headlight/driving light penetrates. Undoubtedly there'll be a few "Deer in headlights" !

And Kawboy: If the whole thing goes up in a puff-o-smoke cuz of "THE RELAY" - You'll be the first to know ! ( I'm confident it was the best choice for my application.) I have no idea where I'd have placed that F*&^ing MONSTER FUSE ! Perhaps on a small trailer ! :woohoo:
